LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOP
Statistical Process Control SPC

Learn how to implement SPC (Statistical Process Control) effectively in industry, with examples from a range of sectors. Discover how to structure control plans, which statistical tools to use for each parameter, why the normal distribution is so important and how to act on the shop floor.

The goal is clear: real-time control, greater efficiency, less waste and compliance with customer quality requirements.

About

Statistical Process Control (SPC) makes it possible to monitor a process in real time, detect deviations before they become defects and demonstrate, with data, compliance with customer specifications. Drawing on decades of experience implementing and teaching SPC in industrial settings, the trainer presents a practical pathway: where to start, how to structure control plans, which statistical tool to use for each parameter, how to prepare the data and which charts to place on the shop floor so that decisions can be made immediately.

Over four intensive hours, with examples from a range of sectors, this workshop prepares participants to:

  • Explain what SPC is, what it is used for and where it applies, with examples from a range of sectors.
  • Structure the implementation of SPC and the associated control plans using a practical roadmap, from the critical process to the chart in production.
  • Apply good practice in data recording, cleaning and categorisation before any analysis.
  • Select the appropriate statistical tool for each type of variable and characterise the process using the key metrics of exploratory data analysis.
  • Assess data normality and understand its role in control limits and in the process's capability to meet specifications.
  • Build and interpret control charts for variables and for categorical data, and carry out process capability studies, translating Cp, Cpk, Pp and Ppk into improvement decisions.

Methodology

Target audience

Prerequisites

Trainer

Certification

A live online session led by the trainer, focusing on the essential concepts and a step-by-step demonstration of how to build and read control charts and process capability studies using real industrial data and case studies. Participants do not need to install any software to attend. The templates provided are optional resources for applying the methods after the session.

Participants follow and interpret the results together, with guided quiz solutions and time to discuss control and variability issues from their own operations. Materials and support resources remain available for future reference.
Professionals in quality, process engineering, production, laboratory and continuous improvement roles; Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt candidates and practitioners who wish to consolidate their command of SPC and of process capability to meet specifications.
Basic knowledge of statistics (mean, standard deviation, normal distribution).
SIA digital certificate
On completing the training, simply fill in the form to generate your SIA digital certificate. The certificate is immediately available for download and can be shared on LinkedIn and other platforms.
DGERT certificate
For participants in Portugal, a DGERT certificate may be issued upon request, where applicable.

Frequently asked questions

What are the prerequisites?

No prior experience with SPC is required. We simply recommend a basic knowledge of statistics, namely mean, standard deviation and normal distribution. Some familiarity with quality or production processes is also helpful.

What language is the workshop delivered in?

This workshop is delivered in English.
If your organisation requires training in another language, such as Portuguese, contact us to discuss the possibility of a private session.

How do I join the live workshop?

Once registered, you will have access to the workshop area on the SIA learning platform.
  • Individual registration: once payment is completed through the SIA website, access to the workshop area is granted automatically.
  • Company registration: the SIA team creates the participants' accounts, enrols them in the workshop and sends all access details by email.
The live Microsoft Teams session, workshop information and learning resources are all available in the workshop area.

What will I find in the workshop area?

The workshop area brings everything you need together in one place, including:
  • Workshop information and agenda
  • Access to Microsoft Teams, with the option to add the session to your calendaro
  • Downloadable support materials and templates
  • Knowledge-check quizzes
  • Certificate request form, available on completion

Will I have access to the workshop materials after the session?

Yes. Your workshop area remains available after the live session, so you can review the learning materials, download resources and consult any support documentation provided.

Can I bring my own process data?

Yes. Participants are encouraged to bring process data from their own organisation. Where appropriate, this data can be discussed during the practical exercises and Q&A sessions.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. After completing the workshop, you can request your SIA Digital Certificate of Participation using the form in the workshop area. The certificate is generated automatically once the form is submitted and is immediately available for download and sharing on social media.

If required, you can also request a DGERT training certificate using the form in the workshop area. The certificate will be sent by email within 30 working days of your request.
